When my husband, Bill was being treated for cancer, I wanted to make his challenge as easy and comfortable for him as possible. I did simple things like place family photos around the hospital room, brought a lovely blanket, inspirational books and music, and even a wicker basket in which to put medical supplies. When I interacted with the doctors, nurses and staff I thanked them for their care and managed to slip in what a great husband and father he was. Essentially, I was “humanizing” Bill to show he was a person of value who was needed and loved.

Imagine our surprise and delight when, after their rounds, a group of doctors came by and told us the hospital staff that came into Bill’s room said they did not like to leave! It seems by creating a Healing in Harmony environment for Bill, the benefit spread to those who cared for him. We feel this contributed to the excellent care he received.

Bill met his cancer challenge and was victorious. The process was the motivation behind Healing in Harmony. Life offers us many kinds of challenges where comfort is needed in many different manifestations. It is my hope that Healing in Harmony will provide practical advice for maneuvering through the medical community as well as the tools for creating an environment that promotes healing, comfort, support and inspiration.

gifBill is known for doing the "surfer stomp". The photo was taken our first Christmas when he was in recovery, it was our Christmas card. The inside read "OH JOY" -  and it was truly a joyous celebration to see him jumping and laughing again.

France, this summer -- we are grateful
for another year of good health for Bill.

harmony

gifgifHarmony is a lovely little town on the coast of California. We visit the town every year on our way to Cambria. It remains untouched and almost abandoned, with a population of 18. I wish I could buy the little town one day - Bill could be Mayor! candy
